Blow Hard – Piping The Haggis & Clearing The Pipes

Thirty-two Broad Street Ward Club members and guests attended a special whisky tasting at the Guildhall during Burn’s Week, hosted by Chairman Richard Muir with excellent tutoring from John McCheyne, Master Brand Ambassador at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society.

It fell to me and my bagpipes to corral everyone into the Guildhall Members’ Dining Room followed by the haggis.

The haggis was expertly executed, and John McCheyne delivered a fantastic rendition of Rabbie Burns’ Address To A Haggis.

Over dinner everyone enjoyed four cask strength whiskies from the Highland, Speyside & Lowland Regions. A delicious main course of guinea fowl was paired with one of the whiskies from the Blair Athol Distillery in the Highland Region. A most congenial, interesting, humorous, and educational experience was had by all.

At the end of the evening I presented Richard with a fine bottle of my own Fratercula from Islay. Wait, I thought they were supposed to pay the piper?
