One of our intended-to-be-swift-but-resulted-in-longer-term projects as Lord Mayor was to get the Guildhall scanned in 3D as part of Europeana’s Twin-it.
EUreka3D and Twin.it – “Under Twin it! (June 2023 – June 2024), the Ministries of Culture of the European Union Member States were invited to liaise with their national cultural institutions to submit at least one 3D digitised heritage asset to the common European data space for cultural heritage. As a data space supporting project, EUreka3D enabled publication of 3D models from various Member States plus UK.” It’s fun to explore them!
While the scanning occurred in 2024, for a variety of technical reasons we only received notification today, 1 July 2026, that the 3D scan has formally been posted so that the Guildhall represents the first iconic UK building in their project to build digital twins of European cultural heritage. The UK team was led by Cradle of English with immense support from the City of London Corporation. Tam McDonald, Founder & CEO Cradle of English, and his team produced this fun Immerzeo video (less than 3 minutes).
